Florida Muslim Not Representative of Muslim Values - Neighbor Newspapers

Florida Muslim Not Representative of Muslim Values - Neighbor Newspapers

Sami Osmakac, a Muslim from Kosovo, wanted to hurt the army, but he realized it was out of his league. He investigated bombing three cars from a remote location, but what is the most disturbing is that he wanted to “take out the bridges to neighboring Pinellas County.”

Where did he live? In Pinellas County! He thought he would “crush the economy.” Clearly his intentions were serious, since he paid $500 down in order to buy weapons.

Fortunately, the Muslims in his community prevented Mr. Osmakac from carrying out his plan. It appears that moderate Muslims are taking a stand! They informed the authorities who contacted Mr. Osmakac using undercover police.

The Quran says: “Serve Allah, and join not any partners with Him; and do good- to parents, kinsfolk, orphans, those in need, neighbors who are near, neighbors who are strangers, the companion by your side, the wayfarer (ye meet), and what your right hands possess: For Allah loveth not the arrogant, the vainglorious.” (33:60)The list of opportunities to do good appears endless for a sincere Muslim.

Consequently, the Quran makes it abundantly clear that Mr. Osmakac is not following the Quranic teaching to take care of his neighbors “who are strangers.” The Quran does not specify whether they are kuffar or not. Since he lives in Florida, there must be many “wayfarers” and he is obligated to look after them–not blow them to smithereens!

While it may be stressful being a Muslim in America, it can never give Mr. Osmakac the right to take lives.

He did not choose to follow the teachings of the Quran, so let it not be said that the Quran inspired him to hatch his plots of violence.

It is truly sad that he chose to be “vainglorious” instead.
